The Master Key Chromatic Pitch Pipe is the ultimate instrument for obtaining exact musical pitch.

It utilizes 13 hand-tuned, special bronze reeds with patented tone chambers, and is precision tuned and double-checked to A-440 -- the full chromatic scale. Proper note selection is assured as the scale is arranged in sequence and clearly marked by embossed notations on both top and bottom covers.

In spite of the revolution of electronic, then digital tuners, the Master Key is amazingly reliable for a pocket-sized instrument. The only catch is that getting a proper key sound does depend on how you play it. It is a small reed instrument, like a harmonica, and reeds bend if you over-blow them. The correct technique for this pitch instrument is to first inhale a deep breath, then blow into the selected pitch hole very evenly and gently out of the smallest opening one can get one's mouth to make. Some people find it seems to sound better with the silver side up. Others have found that using their nose to blow into the selected pitch hole gives them better results as you don't over-blow the reeds that way.

While not being an absolute necessity needed for tuning a lap harp, the Master Key Chromatic Pitch Pipe certainly is a handy tool to have for quickly tuning the strings of the Melody Lap Harp or the Music Maker Lap Harp, or other instruments as well for that matter such as with a guitar.
